Who We Are
Neighborhood Emergency Response Teams (NERT) were created by the San
Francisco Fire Department after the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, when
residents in the Marina neighborhood responded to the damage caused by
the quake before the fire dept was able to reach all locations. Since its
creation, the NERT program has trained over 40,000 San Franciscans in
personal preparedness and basic disaster response skills. Over 300 of your
neighbors in Alamo Square have been certified after successful training to be
part of the Alamo Square NERT group since 1990.
What We Do
NERT members are trained by the San Francisco Fire Department to perform
light search and rescue tasks in their neighborhood. We are also trained to
check our Alamo Square neighborhood and identify situations needing Fire
Dept response. And when the next earthquake strikes, we in the Alamo
Square NERT Group are committed to directly assist the Fire Department.
When You Need Us
In an emergency such as a large quake, we will set up our operations in our
Alamo Square Park.

Remember: You are the true first responder in any emergency and your
preparations will determine how well you ride out an emergency. This training
is the most thoroughly available. And you will be able to join our Alamo
Square NERT Group to support our neighbors in an emergency such as
earthquake, major fire or a Tsunami!
